The Active Taxpayers List (ATL) is a public register of everyone who has filed their tax return for the latest year. Your status — filer or non-filer — directly changes the rate of tax withheld on dozens of everyday transactions.
Buying a car, registering property, withdrawing cash, receiving dividends, or earning profit on savings: in nearly every case, a non-filer pays a significantly higher rate. Over a year, the gap can run into hundreds of thousands of rupees for an active household or business.
Getting onto the ATL is straightforward: register for an NTN if you do not have one, file your return, and pay any tax due. Your name appears on the list shortly after. It must be renewed every year by filing again.
If you have never filed before, do not worry about prior years scaring you off — in most cases the process is simpler and cheaper than people fear. We can register you and file your first return quickly.
